What's Happening on the Street?

The other day, I tried to share a miraculous prayer encounter with a high school student to my friend, but struggled to find the descriptive words to capture the moment when God stepped into our conversation. I wish he could have witnessed the Holy Spirit at work. Such encounters are becoming more frequent; just ask our teams! Here's just a few.

Bobby Rowland and Deborah Barker prayed with a student from Corona High School who was suffering from pain in both legs. After the prayer, the student was smiling and even began to laugh! Bobby asked how she was feeling, and she happily shared that the pain had vanished!

They also prayed for a young man experiencing calf pain, requesting to touch his calf and offering a short prayer. Afterward, he mentioned a significant decrease in his pain. They look forward to seeing him again to monitor his improvement.

Just a few weeks ago, a young woman eagerly, and joyfully welcomed Jesus into her life, as if she had been waiting for someone to invite her, after her friends encouraged her to pray with us.

The previous week, we prayed with a young man who had been visiting regularly seeking prayer for his struggle with a porn addiction. Despite being a Believer, he kept us informed about his efforts to resist temptation through prayer and reciting scripture. While praying for him, the Holy Spirit led me to ask about his Dad. This question stirred deep emotions in him, leaving him speechless and tears welling up in his eyes. Without needing to hear the specifics, we interceded for his relationship with his father, trusting that God knows all.

Diana Ronquillo, a prayer partner at Chino High School, is impressed by the students' willingness to receive God's word and express gratitude to her afterwards. She mentions one student in particular, Alex, who frequently seeks her out for prayer. Alex doesn't request anything in particular; he simply wants to give thanks to God for all his blessings!

Many parents have shown their gratitude by honking and shouting "Thank you!" from their car windows. Some have gone as far as parking their cars and approaching us to receive prayer. Diana affirms that "Operation PRAY is a true blessing, not only for the local community but also for me, as I sense the presence of the Holy Spirit when we share His Good News!"

A few weeks ago, Michelle Reyes contacted me after learning about Operation PRAY, urgently requesting a team to be sent to Los Osos. She explained that there had been a second student suicide in just one month. Responding to her plea, we quickly assembled a team with her and another mother. On the initial day, we prayed with fifteen students. One student approached us seeking forgiveness for hurting his ex-girlfriend. We prayed for the Holy Spirit to soften her heart and reconcile their friendship.

Two weeks ago a student came to us for prayer as his parents, who had recently separated, put pressure on him to decide which parent to live with. It was evident that this weight was too much for him to bear, and as Christians, it is our duty to help others in carrying their burdens. Our prayers were focused on asking God to mend and restore the relationship between his parents. When we checked in with him the next week, he shared that his parents were making positive strides in repairing their marriage. Truly, God is faithful and good!

When we initially came to one high school a year ago to set up and pray with the students, the crossing guard was not welcoming or supportive. However, as he observed our interactions with the students each week, his attitude changed. He now approaches us regularly to seek prayers for his family.

Operation PRAY has developed into a three-part ministry. Each day, prayer teams consisting of two to three adults pray with teenagers as they are dismissed from their school campuses. Our outreach currently covers Riverside, Corona, Norco, Chino Valley, Rancho Cucamonga, Hemet, and Santa Ynez districts. Additionally, we encourage teens to attend their school's Christian club for fellowship and discipleship. Periodically we share and teach them how to pray with their peers at club meetings. Furthermore, we are collaborating with these clubs to co-host a county-wide, free worship concert at Centennial High School's stadium next spring.

God has not forgotten Gen Z, nor should we. This just the beginning...We need a spark to get this Holy Spirit wildfire started at every California public high school. Join us and share.
